Biography

Sanchari Das is an assistant professor in the Department of Information Sciences and Technology at George Mason University. Her research integrates principles from security and privacy, artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML), and human-computer interaction (HCI) to develop resilient, user-centered socio-technical systems. She leads the Center for AI, Privacy, and Security (CAPS Lab) and the Secure Realities Lab, where her work focuses on designing privacy-preserving and explainable technologies. Her research has been published in top-tier conferences such as USENIX Security, NDSS, ACM CCS, CHI, and CSCW. She also brings industry experience from organizations like American Express and Parity Technologies.

Biography

With a decade of experience in information security, I've worked on a variety of projects in the public and commercial sectors--including my recent role at AWS. My expertise spans application security, penetration testing, threat modeling, risk assessment, secure architecture, and emerging areas like GenAI security.

Additionally, I've been an adjunct faculty at GMU since 2017 and have taught IT102, IT343, and IT492/493.

Biography

Alejandro J. Álvarez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Sciences and Technology, College of Engineering and Computing. He previously worked as an information technology consultant throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area concentrating in the areas of information security, information assurance, Unix system and software development. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). His research interests focus on the improvement of solar flare prediction, machine learning, data mining, algorithm development, and information security.

Biography

Tariq Kamal is an assistant professor in the Information Sciences and Technology program in the College of Engineering and Computing at George Mason University. His professional career consists of activities ranging from Industry, Teaching, and R&D projects. He has worked as a senior software engineer developing cloud-based solutions for conducting clinical trials to accelerate the drug discovery process. Dr. Tariq Kamal’s research mainly focuses on the IoT, Data Engineering, and Cloud Computing. Specifically, he is interested in the applications of cloud computing, IoT, and Machine Learning in Agriculture, Healthcare, and Urban Infrastructure. Dr. Tariq Kamal has collaborated on several research projects with academia. He has worked on a USAID-funded project on the application of IoT towards smart energy systems. He has also worked with the Agriculture Department on the application of IoT and AI towards precision agriculture.

Biography

Angkul Kongmunvattana has over 20 years of working experience in higher education at various institutions across the country (University of Minnesota at Twin Cities, University of Nevada in Reno, Columbus State University, Clayton State University, and University of North Georgia) before joining George Mason in 2024. His teaching experience includes developing and delivering both undergraduate and graduate-level courses in CS, ECE, CYBR, and IT programs. His core areas of research interest are parallel and distributed systems, computer architecture, and performance optimization. He has supervised one doctoral dissertation, ten master theses, and numerous undergraduate capstone projects. His research work was supported in part by Altera, Sun Microsystems, NSF, and USGS. Kongmunvattana also has administrative experience in serving as a chairperson in Georgia for 3 years, managing both departmental personnel and operating budgets as well as being responsible for completing annual program assessment reports for five academic programs to satisfy SACSCOC accreditation requirements.

With a diverse academic background, Archange Destiné graduated from George Mason University in 2020, holding multiple M.Sc. degrees, in Computer Science (University of Toulouse, France), Data Analytics Engineering (George Mason University), and Electronic Engineering (Faculty of Sciences of the State University of Haiti, Republic of Haiti). He brings extensive professional and teaching experience to his roles, having served as a Software Engineer, IT Manager, and Deputy Director at the Central Bank of Haiti, as well as a Graduate Lecturer at George Mason University. His research interests lie in Explainable AI, Neuro-Symbolic Learning, and Natural Language Processing.

Biography

Aminat Gbadamosi is an assistant professor of Statistics. Gbadamosi earned her PhD in Statistics and Analytics from Central Michigan University and completed her first degree in Mathematics with honors from Lagos State University, Nigeria. Her teaching style fosters a deep understanding of statistical concepts through active learning and practical application. She incorporates hands-on activities, real-world data analysis, and interactive discussions into her classes, ensuring that students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

Aminat's research interests include Big Data Analytics, probability distributions, Risk Management, and Insurance. For her dissertation, she developed two statistical distributions specifically for modeling heavy-tailed data, addressing critical challenges in accurately predicting and managing extreme events.

She teaches Introductory Statistics I (STAT 250) and Probability and Statistics for Engineers and Scientists I (STAT 344) for the department.

Biography

Michael Bunting is the Assistant Dean for Research and Director of Research Development for National Security in the College of Engineering and Computing. With over 20 years of experience in the workplace and educational testing and assessment, Bunting is a senior research leader with an extensive track record of spearheading strategic planning for research, developing training, building infrastructure, and administering contracts and grants. He has a proven success record in obtaining extramural funding, including standing up three IDIQ contract vehicles from the Department of Defense ($92-million ceiling) and the Intelligence Community ($60-million & $25-million ceilings).

Bunting is a team builder with a history of bringing faculty, government, and industry partners together to solve public and private sector research challenges. He is the originator of a research program on cognitive training. He has developed many aptitude tests and assessments for the Department of Defense, including the High-Level Language Aptitude Battery (Hi-LAB), the Cyber Aptitude and Talent Assessment (CATA), the Computer Language Aptitude Battery (CLAB), the Defense Language Aptitude Battery 2 (DLAB2), and the Regional Proficiency Assessment Tool (RPAT). He co-founded a company around commercializing these instruments with startup capital from the State of Maryland and other investors. He has experience leading an organization in times of change, growth, and redevelopment and mentoring dozens of professional track research faculty from assistant to senior levels and undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral students.
